What changed
In September 2026, Merz Aesthetics Canada Ltd. announced that Health Canada has approved Ultherapy® PRIME to improve the appearance of skin laxity on the anterior arms, posterior arms and abdomen.
Until now, the Ulthera® System's Canadian indications covered the face and neck area: lifting the skin of the eyebrows, under the chin and on the neck, and improving lines and wrinkles on the décolleté. The new indication is the first to cover areas of the body.
How the treatment works
Ultherapy uses micro-focused ultrasound. The handpiece first images the tissue beneath the skin, so the practitioner can see the layers being treated in real time, and then delivers focused ultrasound energy to selected depths. That energy creates small, controlled thermal points that prompt the body's own collagen-building response.
Because the change depends on new collagen, it develops gradually over the following weeks and months rather than immediately after the session.
Who it may suit
The arms and abdomen indication is for skin laxity: mild to moderate looseness or crepiness of the skin. It is not a fat-reduction treatment, and it is not a substitute for surgery where there is a large amount of excess skin, for example after major weight loss.
A consultation is the first step. Your practitioner will look at skin quality, the degree of laxity and your medical history, explain whether Ultherapy is appropriate, and discuss other options if it is not.
What to expect
- Sensation during treatment varies from person to person and between areas; your practitioner will discuss comfort measures with you.
- Temporary redness, swelling, tenderness or tingling can occur. The full list of reported adverse events is in the device's Instructions for Use.
- Individual results vary.
