V Carbon System®Hollywood Peel
Carbon Laser Facial for Pores, Oil Control & Radiance
V Carbon combines activated carbon with Q-Switched Nd:YAG laser energy — a Health Canada licensed Class 4 medical device — to exfoliate, tighten pores, and reduce oil production. Dr. Sharon Fong (CPSBC) personalizes every session for your skin at SkinArtMD Burnaby. Mandarin and Cantonese consultations available.
What is V Carbon?
V Carbon is a modular system made in Italy by Promoitalia that uses Q-Switched Nd:YAG laser energy directed at a carbon-infused film to exfoliate the skin surface, tighten pores, and reduce excess oil — without aggressive heat exposure.
V Carbon (Carbon Laser Facial / Hollywood Peel) harnesses a Q-Switched Nd:YAG laser — a Health Canada licensed Class 4 medical device — to create a photoacoustic effect within an activated vegetable carbon film containing Mandelic Acid, Ferulic Acid, and Citric Acid. The laser selectively targets carbon particles on the skin surface, physically exfoliating the stratum corneum and stimulating collagen production with minimal thermal injury. Most patients report visibly cleaner pores and improved skin tone over a series of treatments. Individual results vary based on skin type, treatment frequency, and aftercare compliance.
Pore-Refining & Oil Control
The photoacoustic effect physically dislodges sebum and open comedones from pores. Clinical observations show most patients with oily skin report reduced shine and improved pore appearance after a completed series.
Brightening with Minimal Downtime
Most patients experience mild redness for 24-48 hours following treatment. No visible peeling is typical. Individual skin response varies — Dr. Sharon Fong calibrates laser energy settings to your Fitzpatrick skin type.
Designed for Asian Skin Tones
Dr. Sharon Fong uses conservative energy parameters calibrated for Fitzpatrick III-V skin types, reducing the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH). Sessions are spaced 2-4 weeks apart — longer intervals than protocols for lighter skin — to allow full skin recovery.

Is V Carbon Right for You?
V Carbon is well-suited for patients with oily or acne-prone skin, enlarged pores, dull complexion, or mild pigmentation who want a low-downtime option. Dr. Sharon Fong reviews your full skin history before recommending a treatment plan.

The SkinArtMD Approach
Dr. Sharon Fong (CPSBC) personally assesses each patient's Fitzpatrick skin type, sebum levels, and pigmentation history before determining energy parameters. SkinArtMD Burnaby serves a predominantly Asian patient population — PIH prevention is built into every protocol.
Physician-Led, CPSBC Registered
Dr. Sharon Fong is a CPSBC-registered physician who personally oversees your V Carbon treatment plan. Energy settings, session spacing, and combination choices are calibrated to your specific skin — not a one-size-fits-all protocol.
Asian Skin PIH Protocol
Patients with Fitzpatrick III-V skin types face a higher risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) following laser treatments. Dr. Fong uses conservative settings and 2-4 week spacing specifically to minimize this risk for our Burnaby patient community.
Combination Therapy Options
V Carbon can be combined with LED light therapy or skin boosters for enhanced results. Dr. Fong recommends combination protocols based on your skin goals, not upselling.

Your V Carbon Experience
A full V Carbon session at SkinArtMD takes approximately 30-45 minutes including consultation, carbon film application, laser pass, and post-treatment calming. Most patients return to normal activities the same day.
Before Your Treatment
Avoid retinoids and exfoliating acids for 3-5 days before treatment; avoid significant sun exposure or tanning for at least 2 weeks prior
Disclose all current medications — especially photosensitizing drugs (certain antibiotics, doxycycline) and any recent isotretinoin use within the past 6 months
Arrive with clean, makeup-free skin; inform the team of any active skin concerns or changes since your last visit
During Treatment
Skin Assessment & Cleansing
Dr. Sharon Fong or a supervised clinician assesses your skin condition that day and performs a thorough cleanse to prepare the treatment surface.
Carbon Film Application
The V Carbon Film is applied evenly across the treatment area and allowed to absorb. This typically takes 10-15 minutes.
Spray Activation
V Carbon Spray is misted over the film to activate the acid complex. A mild warming or tingling sensation is normal and expected.
Q-Switched Nd:YAG Laser Pass
The laser handpiece passes over the carbon film. Most patients describe a mild snapping sensation. The entire laser phase takes approximately 10-15 minutes.
After Your Treatment
Apply broad-spectrum SPF 50+ daily for at least 1 week — sun protection after laser is non-negotiable and directly reduces PIH risk
Avoid active exfoliants, chemical acids, saunas, and heavy exercise for 48-72 hours following treatment
Mild redness for 24-48 hours is normal; use gentle fragrance-free moisturizer and do not pick at any mild flaking
**Individual results vary. Clinical observations reflect outcomes reported by most patients in a series of 3-6 treatments. Photos are illustrative of typical improvement and do not represent promised outcomes for every individual.
V Carbon FAQ
What makes V Carbon different from a traditional carbon laser facial?+
Both use Q-Switched Nd:YAG laser energy directed at a carbon-based film. V Carbon's Promoitalia formulation adds an active acid complex (Mandelic, Ferulic, and Citric Acid) to the carbon film, allowing simultaneous photoacoustic exfoliation and chemical exfoliation in a single session. Dr. Sharon Fong selects the appropriate protocol based on your skin type and treatment goals.
Does V Carbon treatment hurt?+
Most patients describe a mild snapping or warming sensation when the laser passes over the carbon film. It is generally well-tolerated. Dr. Fong calibrates energy levels to your skin type — patients with more sensitive skin receive lower-energy passes.
Is there any downtime after V Carbon?+
Most patients experience mild redness for 24-48 hours. Visible peeling is uncommon — most exfoliation occurs at a microscopic level. You may apply mineral-based SPF and return to normal activities the day of treatment. Avoid active acids and prolonged sun exposure for 5 days post-treatment.
How many V Carbon sessions will I need?+
Clinical observations support a series of 3-6 sessions for meaningful improvement in pore size, oil control, and skin tone. Sessions are spaced 2-4 weeks apart — Dr. Fong recommends 2-4 week intervals for Asian skin types to allow adequate recovery and reduce PIH risk. Quarterly maintenance sessions are recommended once the primary series is complete.
Will my skin peel visibly after treatment?+
Most patients do not experience visible peeling. The photoacoustic exfoliation occurs primarily at a cellular level. Some patients with thicker or very oily skin notice mild flaking over 2-3 days. If this occurs, use a gentle non-active moisturizer and avoid picking.
Can V Carbon be combined with other treatments?+
Yes — V Carbon is commonly paired with LED light therapy or skin booster injections on the same visit, and with Sylfirm X or other laser treatments in a spaced protocol. Dr. Sharon Fong designs combination plans based on your skin's current condition and tolerance, not a preset menu.
