Stretch Mark Treatment in Burnaby
Soften the texture. Set realistic goals.
Stretch marks are scar-like lines that form when the dermis stretches faster than it can adapt, as in pregnancy or weight change. They are rarely erased completely, but at Skin Art MD in Burnaby, BC, Sylfirm X Body, microneedling and PRP can improve texture and colour over several sessions. What Do You See?
Stretch marks vary in color, texture, and age. Identifying your type helps determine the most effective treatment. Select all that apply:
Treating stretch marks while they are still red or purple generally gives better results, but mature white marks can also be improved to a degree.
Why Do Stretch Marks Form?
Stretch marks are a form of dermal scarring that happens when skin is stretched beyond what its elastic fibres can handle. Pregnancy, puberty, rapid weight change, hormones and genetics all play a part.
Rapid Skin Stretching
When skin is stretched faster than collagen can be produced, the dermis tears internally, creating visible scar lines on the surface.
Hormonal Changes
Cortisol and other hormones during pregnancy, puberty, or stress weaken elastic fibers, making the skin more vulnerable to tearing.
Collagen Disruption
The tearing disrupts the organized collagen network, replacing it with disorganized scar tissue that looks and feels different from surrounding skin.
Vascular Changes
New stretch marks appear red/purple due to damaged blood vessels. As they mature, blood supply decreases and they fade to white.
Genetic Predisposition
Skin elasticity is largely genetic. Some people are significantly more prone to stretch marks regardless of prevention efforts.
How Are Stretch Marks Treated at Skin Art MD?
The options aim to stimulate collagen in the damaged dermis. They soften and even out stretch marks but rarely remove them completely.
Collagen-stimulation strategy: RF microneedling for deeper structural change, microneedling for surface texture, and PRP as an optional add-on to support healing.
1Collagen Remodeling Therapies
Sylfirm X Body
RF Microneedling for the Body
Body-optimized RF microneedling that delivers radiofrequency energy into the dermis beneath the stretch mark to stimulate collagen and elastin remodeling.
Microneedling
Collagen Induction
Controlled micro-injuries trigger the skin's natural healing response, producing new collagen that may soften stretch mark depressions.
How We Approach Stretch Marks
Body-Optimized RF
Our Sylfirm X Body system is calibrated for body skin, which is thicker and needs deeper energy delivery than facial skin.
Optional PRP
RF microneedling can be combined with PRP, which uses your own growth factors to support healing. Your physician will explain what the evidence does and does not show.
Below-the-Surface Approach
RF microneedling works beneath the surface, which can lower the risk of surface injury, though pigment changes are still possible in melanin-rich skin.
Realistic Expectations
We give an honest assessment. Stretch marks can often be improved but are rarely fully erased, and we set clear goals from the first visit.
